American Journalism on the Brink

The Ojai Valley News Foundation hosted a screening of “Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink” on Jan. 18 at the Ojai Playhouse, but judging from the energy of the audience, and from California newspaper leaders who spoke after the film, journalism is anything but on the brink.

Jan. 18 fundraiser screening at Ojai Playhouse to benefit Ojai Valley News Foundation. The day is special for me because it is also the first gathering of members of the California Independent News Alliance — a new group dedicated to promoting small independent news outlets throughout the state.

Stripped for Parts was named as one of the top 20 films of 2024!

Rick Goldsmith’s Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink offers a sobering overview of how “vulture capitalism” has reduced US news media—which had already been embattled by the internet and other factors for years—to a rapidly-shrinking, monopolistic shell of itself.

Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink was included in The Indian Panorama’s listing of current documentary films amongst other impactful films such as Black Box Diaries.
