The Ojai Valley News Foundation hosted a screening of “Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink” on Jan. 18 at the Ojai Playhouse, but judging from the energy of the audience, and from California newspaper leaders who spoke after the film, journalism is anything but on the brink.
Attendees donated $22,500, including $11,500 from a matching grant from an anonymous donor for the Foundation. Board members pledged an additional $3,000.
Sandy Tolan, a USC professor, award-winning journalist and best-selling author of four books, said of the movie: “I felt really quite emotional, at not only the anger I think a lot of us felt at this vulture capitalism, but also the fight that’s in these journalists.”
